STEM Fest 2012 will be honoring 14 dedicated middle school STEM teachers from across the United States for their participation in Youth Service America's (YSA) STEMester of Service. STEM Fest will highlight the program’s effective practices and its impact on student achievement, career and workforce readiness, and communities.

Featured Presenters will include:

  • 14 of YSA’s STEMester of Service educators
  • Steven A. Culbertson, President & CEO, YSA
  • Kumar Garg, Senior Advisor to the Deputy Director,White House Office of Science and Technology Policy

YSA’s STEMester of Service, funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, targeted middle schools in states where the high school graduation rate is most challenged, providing grants to teachers to engage a class of students in a “semester” of continuous service and learning activities in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM). Framed by the teacher’s curriculum and academic standards, the STEMester of Service engages students to apply learned skills and knowledge to a significant community issue, while encouraging acquisition of career and workforce readiness skills.
