Posted June 16, 2010

Quick Facts about the RTTT

Authorized under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), also known as the stimulus package, the Race to the Top program (RTTT) is a competitive grant program that encourages and rewards states that are implementing K-12 education reforms in the four assurances outlined in the ARRA. The four assurances, include:

  1. Enhancing standards and assessments
  2. Improving the collection and use of data
  3. Increasing teacher effectiveness and achieving equity in teacher distribution
  4. Turning around low-performing schools

The U.S. Department of Education made the awards in two phases, with Phase 1 funding awarded in spring 2010 and Phase 2 funding awarded in late summer 2010.
